Evaluation of preliminary task

1.What did you find the most challenging and why?

It may seem the simplest choice to some to decide on which music video they would like to copy. But I struggled with deciding which music video I wanted to do along side what my group wanted to do. I put forward three music videos which I thought would be suitable and other team members also gave some ideas.I am quite indecisive, but when my group liked the idea of 212 it seemed like the right one to pick and something we would be able to recreate. One thing I found challenging was getting everyone in the group to be involved, but I feel Courtney and I tried to involve everyone as much as possible as much as they were willing to be involved. At first I found the editing suite complicated to use, over 2 screens. However after a lesson with Ray the technician who helped explained how to film properly, then one to one time with my group we learnt the first basic techniques then experimented with different effects for our video.

2) What will you do differently when you make your A2 product next year?

I think next year will be different straight away, as a will be working independently. When it comes to creating my product next year I want to use more effects on my music video. So far we used a blur transition between different shots and slightly slowed down some clips. I would like to use a wider variety of effects, without making my music video look over the top and tacky. I am also going to use a slightly slower song I think, to ensure that the person in my video can act

3) How has doing this task helped you and why? What have you taken away from this experience?

This task has helped me to understand more of what A2 will include, it has also helped because I enjoyed the process of using the camera and the tripod to film and working out which shots needed to be taken. This has had an effect on my ideas of what I want to do next year within my media product. The experience of making the This task has actually has helped me to realize what I would like to go on and do after college, after looking into university which I hadn't really looked at before, I like the plan to go onto Leeds metropolitan to study media, which would need the skills I am developing my making the music video and my own task next year. I haven taken away that its vital to film more footage than you need because you can always cut it down but it's hard if you havnt taken the footage in the first place. Also that I need to allow myself enough time to do things as they take longer than you expect if you want them to be exactly how you planned.

4) How successful was your product? Why do you think it was successful or unsuccessful?

Our media music video recreation was successful. We put a lot of effort into getting every single shot the same distance away/close up and to last the same length of time as the origional 1 minute piece of video clip. It was also successful in my eyes because it is as good as I pictured it being in the planning processes, so it lived upto my expectations. For the first go at recreating a music video I feel my group and I did well. A downside could be that I felt we ran out of time to complete the clip fully, missing out on about 5 seconds by the time we had to screen it to the class. But Courtney and I managed to finish the video afterwards, for the finished one to be posted to the a2 blogs.

5) How do you feel about developing to A2 level now you have completed this task?

I knew I wanted to anyway to carry on to A2, but I think the video task has just given me more of an idea of what it involves and I'm looking forward to starting next year and learning skills and techniques I can use for university to peruse media at Leeds met. I like that we got the time to do everything our selves and could ask for help if we needed it. For example in the editing stage, we got to experiment with styles and adding effects but if we got stuck it was set up so there was always someone we could ask for help from.

6) What do you like most/least about your final product?
I liked the black and white alot in the final product, that's what made it seem very similar to the origional, even if we had copied it exactly shot by shot, if it wasn't in black and white it wouldn't look very realistic

Prop List

Shooting schedule

We want to start filming as soon as possible to give ourselves as much time as we need in case something goes wrong or doesn't look right. Saturday will allow to get the shots to be filmed which establish the music video clip, with the shots of street lights and location (houses and streets). Monday will be used to film at college when everyone will be here, Ellie who is going to be in the video will be free during our groups media lesson.Wednesday the 18th of June is the ideal filming time, from 2.50pm until 4pm as our whole group as well as the cast have free time, so hopefully everyone can be involved. This will allow for everyone to input.

Lyrics to the clip

Hey, I can be the answer
I'm ready to dance when the vamp up
And when I hit that dip get your camera
You can see I been that bitch since the pamper
And that I am that young sis the beacon
The bitch who wants to compete and
I can freak a fit that pump with the peep and
You know what your bitch become when her weave in
I just wanna sip that punch with your peeps and
Sit in that lunch if you're treatin'
Kick it with the bitch who comes from Parisian
She know where I get mine from and the season
Now she wanna lick my plum in the evenin'
And fit that tongue tongue d-deep in
I guess that c*nt gettin' eaten
I guess that c*nt gettin' eaten
I guess that c*nt gettin' eaten
I guess that c*nt gettin' eaten
I guess that cunt gettin'...

I was in the 212
On the uptown A
Nigga you know what's up
Or don't you?
Word to who made ya
I'm a rude bitch nigga
What are you made up of?

Initial Casting decisions and ideas.

Shot by shot images in the music video

To be able to successfully recreate the music video, I have gone through and taken a screen shot every time it changes and for how many seconds it's on this. This means there will hopefully be accurate timing and be able to do the same in filming.
The first 4 images are establishing the setting of the music video, and helps create an understanding as to where it is. They flash onto each other quickly so it doesn't get boring
Some more parts to the videos, and introducing everyone who features throughout, in short bursts at a time.
The video continues similarly to this, going from a medium shot to a close up shot and back and forth. It fits in with the rhythm of the song. I think it also emphasises the meaning of the song, which is quite rude when uncensored! Focusing on the mouth.

For my preliminary task

I am In a group with Courtney,Will and Josh from my media class and we are going to recreate 1 minute of the music video from 212 by Azealia Banks.

Vampire Weekend - A-Punk

Initial ideas

I have composed a list of the initial ideas my group I came up with, we all had different music tastes as me and Courtney liked less conventional music videos, so we decided on a Pop song by Azealia Banks as it was well known and the video is black and white, which means we will get experience with editing and also there is lots of switching between images so this also requires editing.

AS - A2 Transition Brief:

In order to prepare for your A2 Media Studies coursework- The Advanced portfolio, you need to:

-Work in a group of 3 or 4 people to plan and produce a reconstruction of a minute from an existing music video.
-Set up your individual A2 Coursework blog and choose your coursework brief
-Gather and evidence research into the conventions of your chosen brief over the summer starting with codes and conventions of your media form with examples, and also the genre of the text you intend to produce. (i.e. Music Video conventions and Rock Conventions).
